Are Mac users like cattle?
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, September 07 2012 @ 12:06 PM EDT
Knock it off with the gratuitous insults. I'm a PhD physicist who's used a Mac
for years. When I started at my current job 10 years ago I got a Macbook. Prior
to that I used linux. At this fairly large atmospheric research facility where I
work, I have seen more and more scientists using Macbooks, along with optical
engineers (running a windows design programs in a VM when necessary) and
software engineers who used to be strictly linux now have a macbook (with VMs
for linux and windows). At any particular technical meeting I'm likely to see
more Macbooks than Windows laptops. And it's not just this facility. At a recent
large field research project with maybe 100 researchers from universities and
gov't agencies, probably 1/4 or more carried Macbooks. I'll give you a hint:
this is NOT a group of vacant-eyed cattle. If you don't like it, that's fine,
let's hear your reasons (anything other than drag-to-install?) But insulting the
intelligence of intelligent users is not needed.

P.S. Your windows- (linux-?) centricity is showing. If you want your program on
another disk, and it's a drag-to-install installation, just drag it to the other
disk! It will run just fine. It won't show up in the Applications menu (since it
isn't in the Applications folder) but it will run fine. Why haven't you tried
it? It won't break anything. (It's a Mac, not Windows! ;) )

I've encountered too many who have taken the Apple propaganda as unquestionable
truth. Now there's a research project for somebody with more time and
inclination than I've got.

Are not comparing Mac users to cattle rather derogatory? Towards the cattle I
mean. Cattle alway react rationally, human more seldom, and a human hard bit by
a bug, not at all.
