Whilst a script that reads the old database, and writes to the new database is going to, theoretically provide the correct data in the correct pkace, it doesn't always do so.

Thus, keep an old system around that is "read only" that contains the old database. Have employees transcribe corrections as needed, when needed from the old database to the new database. Include in the new database a field that states when the individual record was verified against the original, old record.
