Sorry, I didn't mean to come across as a fanboy. I still use linux, and recently
programmed a linux system controlling a microscope with focus and stage motion,
image acquisition, and environmental control. But I do take offense to:
"Mac users [are] like cattle", "I wash my hands after using
it", & "my empty eyes stare at [the] wall as any righteous cattle
would do". This you call "... merely opining on his first week's
experience of a Mac."? And that "[My] response makes [me] come over
like an Apple fanboi."? I think I was much more rational in my response
than the poster!
If describing the type and number of people using Macbooks is fanboism, I think
your fanboi threshold is set pretty low. Now my last sentence could be
considered to have crossed the line - but it was said with a smile!
Take my own advice, you suggest? I think it is incumbent on the accuser to state
the charges - what is it about the Mac that is turning him into a cow? As I said
above, linux is my programming platform of choice, and I have both linux and
Windows VM on my mac. (Although I haven't used the windows VM in probably a
year) I find installing software on linux can be a pain - I always seem to run
into rpm dependencies, perhaps because the software I'm trying to install isn't
from major vendors. Compared to Windows machines, I like the mac because of
hardware reliability & capability, OS reliability, program consistency, and
yes, everything generally seems to "just work", and work well. I admit
some of that is familiarity, and when someone is considering switching from
Windows to Mac I'll warn them that some of their habits will need to be broken.
(Like using the keyboard copy-paste shortcuts will not make a copy of a file.)
