MOZILLA Y U HATE RSS?!?
Authored by: raindog on Wednesday, September 05 2012 @ 02:19 PM EDT
I switched to Google Reader myself last year, after my feed use outgrew
Firefox's built-in facilities and Akregator's instability became intolerable.
Thunderbird's keyboard navigation was severely lacking at the time, as was
Liferea's, so I figured there was no downside to a web-based solution. I wrote a
couple of scripts to email me when any of my feeds got articles with certain
important keywords, and RSS is better than ever for me now.

Not for everyone, certainly, and comes with the same privacy caveats as Gmail,
but I like being able to access the same feeds (and more importantly, their
read/unread status) on my phone and tablet as on my desktop. Until there's a
cross-platform Ubuntu and Android solution implemented in free software, it's
the best option I have. As a bonus, the only resources it consumes are any files
I happen to download as a result of reading the feeds, which is a pretty rare
occurrence since my commute time shrank enough to make podcasts unnecessary.
