One thing is for sure, this is going to be one fascinating appeal.

The problem seems to be that, as foreman, he was able to sway the others,
probably on the basis that they could get home early if they just did as he
said.

He owns a patent, his judgement was affected by what he wants for his patent:
* it to be not invalidated by any prior art
* it to be used against anything vaguely similar
* it to get a judgement for a $billion

Perhaps he thinks that he will be getting the billion from Samsung now.

I have to believe

That even if all the other jurors would have
disagreed this guy would have hung the jury.
That may have been the best we could have
hoped for? Dunno, maybe an appeal will give
us a better result. Pray to the court.

I doubt it

It's hard to know what you would consider to be fascinating (that's a rather
personal thing), but I wouldn't have said what you did. Firstly, it's not clear
that the appeal that you expect will even be necessary. I haven't been following
this all that closely, but it's not too late for the judge to order a retrial,
is it? In that case, Apple might appeal, but Samsung wouldn't. (Perhaps Apple
and Samsung might both appeal parts that they wouldn't be happy with.) The other
thing is that I am not fascinated by things that seem fairly obvious. To me, it
would be clear that Samsung should win. No doubt the lawyers would add tons of
complexity, but to me it would be unnecessary complexity, so it wouldn't be that
fascinating. That's probably just a matter of personal preference, though.
