Patents are gamed in the pharmaceutical market as well. Prilosec was renamed as
Nexium just as it would have gone "off patent", giving it another full
patent period of protection.

There is hardly any RESEARCH that
happens in the software industry.
Must everything is DEVELOPMENT. You
know exactly what you are building

The medicinal patent is also quite narrow....
You patent a particular statin, for example, but others are
free to create/market/patent other similar but not
specifically identical products.
Software patents are on the general/broad description, not the
specific/narrow and unique. (Rounded corners would apply only
to a specific radius, for example, not rounded corners in
