Phreaking prior art for '647.
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, September 02 2012 @ 11:39 PM EDT
5,946,647 (the “’647 Patent”) From my brief reading of this patent it seems
rather obvious. First of all the process described has been done by hand since
humans first began to record and collect information. A process where a person
recognizes a string then records and saves it a predetermined location. Even
simple computer languages such as javascript have created specialized strings
for many types of data (Name, address, phone number, etc) since the early 90's.

There have been numerous software innovations which were able to not only
generate data, such as phone numbers, but also perform actions based on said
data. The old "war dialers'" were capable of doing these types of
actions, they would call a phone number and create a specialized database based
on the actions received from the action taken from recognized information. If I
am not mistaken war dialers were even able to perform additional computer
inquiries from specific phone number generated characteristics. I've never been
a phreaker but it seems to me the technology they developed is prior art for
some of the claims in the '647 patent.

Heck, perhaps some Apple employees may have engaged in phreaking activity.
