When things like ultra high-res displays are too new and too expensive to make
their way into the mainstream, LG, Samsung, etc. have been able to market them
to Apple. Apple's customers' egos are invested in Apple's 'coolness,' so they
will pay more. However, with Samsung's sense of cool rapidly rising, and with
more and more realizing that Android brings more choice than Apple would ever
tolerate, Apple is becoming more and more lukewarm.
So, let's say that companies like LG and Samsung have contracts to supply
certain parts. So what. This market evolves in accordance with Moore's law.
So, whatever product is new and shiny now will be outdated and a tough sell in 9
months. Apple's suppliers can easily stick to current contracts but cut Apple
off for any new innovations (Apple dictionary: 'innovation' is marketing new
components developed by the suppliers.)
