Haven't the military had meals in the form of bars for decades? I seem to
recall, around the time of the 1st Gulf war that the U.S. military was working
with chocolate bar companies to make meals, in bar form, that wouldn't melt in
the desert heat.

How would this square with companies like Clif which makes nutritionally
balanced energy bars that taste good. A classic CLif Bar is roughly the
nutritional equivalent of a bowl of vitamin fortified cereal with milk. Sadly
they now use barley malt which means those of use with wheat gluten intolerance
