If Apple's claims are patentable, then will be possible for
computer games developers, movie producers, and those
creating simulators to patent certain special effects,
animations or physics simulations and not allow anyone else
to do them. A patent on the slide to lock on doors to get to
the next game level? A patent on objects shaking or moving
in games when you shoot them with a bullet? Charging movie
companies royalties for showing computer generated
animations that show physics simulations involving bouncing
effects or sliding latches or catches being operated? That
is just plain daft.
Animations, simulations and physics of real life objects or
events are not novel, and using computers to generate
animations, simulations and physics them is not only not
novel, but also very obvious. Games developers have been
doing them for years. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
