Forgive me, but I've been reading Groklaw since the early days of SCO vs. IBM
and I've always perceived it as a showcase of how your legal system *doesn't*
work. Sometimes the right thing happens (after years and years, and millions of
dollars in lawyer fees) but more often than not, this system completely fails to
deliver timely and appropriate justice to the wronged parties. I was not really
aware of just how broken the U.S. justice system is, until I started to read
Groklaw.
Of course it's also completely beyond fixing; the inmates are running the asylum
(all of the judges and most of the politicians in your country were lawyers
before they became judges and politicians). Your patent system is totally out
of control, and is going to be a larger and larger drag on your tech innovation
over the next 10 years. Software patents are crazy-stupid, copyright is out of
control, and even simple SLAPP cases like SCO's can take 5+ years to wind their
way through the courts. Google has to fight for years and spend millions of
dollars to defend themselves against Oracle patents that a sane system would
never even have issued. Your country's legal system looks to me like a disaster
zone, and I would never want to do business there.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
