Samsung Files Motion to Stay Judgment ~pj

Couldn't Samsung have picked it's battles, though? Licensing some of these
patents and designing around others until it had a reasonable mix that was
affordable?

Also, where is the outcry about Samsung's conduct with respect to FRAND
patents? You are practically frothing at the mouth over this verdict, but you
say
almost nothing about the potential impact on innovation and consumer choice
with respect to Samsung's submarine patent activities.

Samsung wanted to differentiate its products away from other Android devices. It

chose to do so by making its products look more like Apple's.

I'd be curious to know, if Samsung had been using plain vanilla Android, could
it
have avoided this mess?

If you can sell a tablet without a manual because how you use it is so intuitive,

Intuitive literally depends upon what the individual is familiar with, and knows.

For me, it is anti-intuitive to:
* Hit the button on the iPhone, to get out of a program;
* Simultaneously hit the volume up and power on button on the Xoom, to start it;
* Hit the send button, to answer my WinMo phone.

None of those devices came with a manual. I learned of them only through calls to tech support.

This Florida Lawyer says "Spot on mate." Apple's attempted misuse of
the law is unconscionable. I predict that this verdict will be overturned, and
the relevant IP laws will be clarified to prevent this sort of anti-innovation
misuse.

There is a functional aspect to rounded corners in addition to "slipping
into a pocket".

A small rounded corner (such as 1/8 inch) will focus any force on that corner
when dropped (or thrown). This focus multiplies the impact and will trivially
cause major damage to a glass frame and display. When slipped into a pocket it
also reduced the both the effort, AND the wear and tear on the pocket itself
(poking holes in pockets).

I mention thrown, because some people will throw their phone in anger sometimes.
Any impact of a small corner against another person can easily kill them. Large
rounded corners (1/2 inch or so) will bruise, but much less likely to kill
(still lose an eye though as eye sockets are about an inch across).

For examples of deliberately small rounded corners see "throwing
stars". I had a set of unsharpened practice ones,... that chewed through
1/2 inch plywood.

I wonder if we can beat the rounded corners by using health and safety law.
