The legal issue is much bigger and more important
than either of the players. Lift up your eyes
and look at the bigger picture. It isn't about
Samsung. Android is based on Linux, so it is
about FOSS, in any case, and the rest is Apache
licensed, and that is FOSS too. So you are also
factually wrong.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

If you rally behind the most FLOSS-friendly 'big' company that's out there, then
that sends a clear message.
It's even clearer when you ditch them as soon as they change their ways. See
what happened to Novell and SuSE for an example.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Didn't the LG come first?

I own a Samsung Galaxy Note, the European model. I fail to see how the 5.3"
screen is copied from Apple. Yet this screen is something my eyes can read. I
need far more powerful eyeglasses to see the 3.2" screens.
My Galaxy has a few custom tweaks to its UI from the xda-developers crew. It
draws 1/3 percent per hour from its battery while monitoring my email, messages,
and Google Voice number (via WiFi). Runs for three or four days at a time
(depending on use). Apple iPhones guzzle the battery, they can't do that.
My wife has a Barnes and Noble Nook Color running Cyanogenmod (7"). That
wasn't copied from Apple. It followed the Samsung 7" tablets.
Apple copied BSD. I know, I was an Apple developer at the time, and took part in
the PowerPC rollout (my goodness, that was a long time ago :)[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Okay, I don't usually chime in on Groklaw, but I have to. As an owner of the
Samsung Galaxy S3 I have to step to their defense. This phone is nothing at
all like the iPhone. In fact when I was given an apple phone to configure for
another staff member, I found myself shocked at how pathetic it seemed.
Tiny
screen, clunky interface, way too much configuration to even get
started.
It
just felt like a throwback.
My issues:
Wow, is the display really that
small? No wonder they had to pack so
many pixels in.
Proprietary power
cord. Haven't had one of those since my Nextel
phone in 2005.
Power button
on top, felt just as clunky as the volume buttons sticking a
mile out the side
of the phone.
Even my 5G iPod (yeah, I own and use Apple stuff) feels more
elegant.
Did I mention thickness? This thing is thicker on it's own than
the galaxy
with silicone protective case! The iPhone feels as thick and large
as that iPod I
mentioned earlier and it has a hard drive in it.
I don't see
how an honest person can even compare Samsung's products
with
Apple and come
to the conclusion that Samsung is a copycat. The difference
is night and day. [ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

So you're just going to completely ignore that verdicts set
precedents and the precedent set in this case is unequivocally
bad for FOSS?[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
