Well Apple was rather commercially unsuccessful until they
started finding different ways to get money by locking in their
customers.
I can imagine the time their market share was below 5%, while
feeling they invented it all. And having the better products. And
loosing the look and feel against Msft. Must not have been funny.
Being underdog it may not have been that visible, but it was on
that track already a long time ago, before loosing against Msft.
See Apple vs Digital Research,.... The act of a desperate company
or an early try to knock out the small ones and build a monopoly?
I think one would agree that Apple with better products could not
really sell. The illegally build Msft monopoly was to strong.
Like today your PC seller will simply not ask you the question if
you want it with Windows or not, at that time you had to go to a
big city to find the only Apple shop. Apple survived with a small
but very enthusiastic (I think of not technology very interested)
followers. And by very smart product placement.
But is using the same and other tricks as Msft really the answer?
Had the DOJ acted earlier and been successful against Msft, I
think Apple would had the opportunity to increase it sails
without any dirty trick. And maybe...
Msft with who they have many (property software) interests in
common and with who it seems they are working better and better
together. Read an article on FOSSPatents and try to imagine Msft
is behind. And read it again and try to imagine Apple is
behind...[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]
