I've looked at the teardown images, but I disagree with your
assessment of the evolution of the design. Of course there are
restraints which influence the design, I just don't think that
the design is as rigidly specified by the constraints you
mention. If anything, I think the design of the internal
components was more heavily influenced by the desired external
design.
With regards to the rest, I think the whole trade dress thing
is nonsense. I think the fact that you can protect things like
the look and feel of something in this way speaks volumes about
how "1st world" countries are desperately clinging to imaginary
property having outsourced most of their industries which held
true value: manufacturing, mining etc. But again, just my
