Yeah Apple's sales numbers were in toilet because of Android. Apple just couldn't compete against Android.

Of course Apple can compete, and its numbers are not in the toilet. Android numbers might be growing faster, but Apple's numbers are still growing well. Both AT&T and Verizon say that iPhone is their best-selling phone, and Androids sell only on lower price.

What Apple is doing here is making sure that Samsung does not have an unfair price advantage by using designs that Apple spent millions of dollars to create. Other phone manufacturers paid for their own innovation - why should Samsung get the free ride ?? They paid Microsoft, after all.

I think a good rule of thumb is that when the phrase "you do realize" occurs in my writing, I'm too angry and should take a break.

It isn't difficult to expel the manufuacturer's operating system and load one of our own, but Google seems to be more encouraging about the matter.

Me, I'm not interested in "fixing" a new product, though I've been known to get a cheap computer and kick off the Windows Limited Edition and replace it with a Linux or FreeBSD. Phones, though, are not a general purpose device and in the US are heavily regulated radio transmitters. The engineering is necessarily an exercise in figuring out what will not happen so as to optimize what does happen.

So within some constraints they may or may not acknowledge, they prefer Android because they believe it behaves more in the way they wish. Just because it isn't what you want, or the product doesn't fully realize their value system, or you do want the freedom, but you think reality has thwarted you, doesn't mean you have to rain on their parade. (Or in this week's context bring an arc light to their solace room.) Let us remember the wisdom of the movie Less Than Zero: there are no good guys and bad guys, there are just guys.

Google has started to take on non-patents used by patent trolls.

I've forgotten the name of Sun Tzu's Daoist disciple, but I suspect that they are using his playbook, rather than Sun Tzu's. (The disciple that practiced the YiJIng qua Dao.)

I realize that Sun Tzu, and his disciples were/are ardent Daoists.

You do realize that Samsung is <a href="http://

mobile-phone-sales-down-2-percent/">ahead of
Apple</a> in phone sales, that Android is
now way ahead of iOS worldwide?
