"Not even John Doe stooped that low!"
To me the phrase does not speak
of a specific act. It speaks of a .... for lack of a better phrase, it speaks
of a "level of civilized behavior".
So let's compare:
MS Behavior as
Culturally instilled by Gates: Lock out competition, lock in customers even
while the Customers are saying "I own my data, if I want to move my data to
another product, your software needs to allow me". Perform this with
functionality built right within the code.
Apple behavior: Lock out
competitors, lock in customers. Perform this functionality via Legal means:
patents and EULA's.
From this particular customer's perspective:
The
two are on par with the worst of their behaviors - so far - even though they
don't necessarily execute their plans in the same way. They're just as
uncivilized.
But not totally uncivilized. They haven't yet - to the best
of my knowledge - started hiring assassin's to bump off their biggest
threats.

Yup, that line stuck out at me, and I wondered ho much lower it will go
pushed by the rest of the world's disbelief of this stupidity...
