Well, assuming they're not lying about what they're keeping I guess. If they
are actually recording IP info for a significant period of time then sure it's
definitely a privacy issue. I guess what they're saying boils down to
"trust us, we're Microsoft" (!), but given they're not really in the
advertising business it doesn't seem like said data would be particularly
valuable to them and there's potential for another massive EU fine if they got
caught.
In either case if you assume MS will lie about what they're really collecting
the only way to be sure is to not use anything related to MS (not just windows
8!). You do have to place some degree of trust in a vendor to use their
product, particularly an operating system. This feature (or otherwise) doesn't
