Of course this verdict is good and bad news for Apple

Rather off topic, but interesting. You make some good points about global trade,
and the US does indeed have a lot of resources but it has a problem with using
more than twice as much oil as is has locally. Big changes would be needed to
many aspects of US infrastructure to be energy-independent. It could be done, as
the renewables, coal, gas and nuclear resources are there (and there is enormous
room for just using less), but you have to work out how to get by with half as
much driving, flying and fertiliser, costing several times as much as it does
now. That's a big deal for an economy and infrastructure arranged like the US's.

And back on topic I am shocked at Apple being allowed to win this silly 'look
and feel' case. The US got this right 25 years ago with Windows/MacOS, and
benefited accordingly. Excluding all competition for expensive Apple computers
is a massive self-inflicted harm.
