Saying every Windoze8 machine is installing Vmlinuz, WINE, and Firefox, Chrome,
and Libre Office, along with a bunch of other favorites?
Not to mention, isn't this sort of thing illegal in the EU under the data
protection directive?
Not that my Apple iFondleslab is any better, wanting Credit Card details and
answers to personal questions before even talking to the App store....

The Win 7 EULA contains the following
"b. Use of Information. Microsoft may use the computer information,
accelerator information,
search suggestions information, error reports, and Malware reports to improve
our software and
services. We may also share it with others, such as hardware and software
vendors. They may
use the information to improve how their products run with Microsoft
software."
If the info MS "shares" with others is going to be used to improve
their products then obviously they need to know what software you are running to
resolve any clashes and how it is configured and whether it is configured to run
at startup and how much you use it to get a handle on how often it crashes
compared with hours run.
Unfortunately 'others' is not defined, so in order to use Win 7 (and probably
most MS products) you have to give MS permission to "share" this info
with anybody on the planet.
If you are naive enough to believe that MS "share" this info for free;
you should not be let out without a nanny!
