just a different way to pay for the TV
Authored by: mcinsand on Thursday, August 23 2012 @ 09:50 AM EDT
How does TV fund itself where you are? In the US, we have 'free TV,' but we
still pay for it; it's just not as obvious. We pay by taking time to sit
through commercials, and those commercials aren't free. Especially during
Prime-time. And, don't ever forget, it's not just some company that is paying
for those commercials; they don't sponsor TV programs out of goodwill. Those
costs show up as part of the product price on the store shelves. The British
system has just removed a middleman or three. As for cable or satellite, my
closer-to-basic-than-premium cable costs considerably more than the British
annual license.
