Is it not the "duty" of a judge to actually "solve" the

could relax, they'd already done everything they needed to to preserve the
issues in
question for appeal."
As a trial progresses issues change and evolve. If you do not object at that
point, you lose the right to appeal the circumstances of change, even if you
appeal the original ruling.
A judges job is to rule on motions, not to tell counsel what motions they can
and cannot make.
