OK, fair call. However, I do only a modest amount of programming in my day job
and some web stuff in the evenings, so am definitely on the 'Bubba' end of
things. When I when I found out that (I think contrary to the book I'd been
using) the MySQL password function was NOT for my use for password hashing then
I did some research and upped my game accordingly including salts and password
stretching. It does not take much research online to find out quickly that
simple hashing is not enough. If I can do it then it is more than a little
alarming that some of the big boys don't.
