MAD works fine in thoery, but doesn't take into account the likelihood that some

That assumes you would like to mutually stop selling products or sell really
awful ones. There would be Apple (and whatever on its axis of evil) that
couldn't use any Google stuff, and Google/Android that would have a different
set. Apple might have cash, but either they would only produce elegant looking
but clumsy iPaperweights, or nothing at all, while their cash reserves shrink
unless they fire everyone since they couldn't add new stuff except onto their
own wholly owned features.
But maybe Googorola will just demand a nice round number per device license.
Say $96 - $24 for each rounded corner.
