do a bit of math
Authored by: dio gratia on Friday, August 17 2012 @ 06:42 PM EDT

There's also the idea of cognitive bias. In other words there would be alternative reasons Mr. Mueller would be interested in Google's failing. You could extend that to Apple v. Samsung, where the issue is Android based phones, Android being a Google product. Microsoft v. Motorola, wherein Mr. Mueller exclusively equates Motorola as Google following Google's stock buyout of Motorola.

There's anecdotal evidence Mr. Mueller's involvement with Microsoft entails opposition to Google as well (e.g. The Story Behind ShopCity And Its Antitrust Complaint Against Google). The common thread is opposing Google, whose services (Google+, FOSS Patents blog, Gmail,...) he uses. It may not even be personal, rather a useful position for earning income.

To me it adds up if you consider that he is just copying what other journalists have been doing since newspapers first became popular. They drive sheeple back to reading their column/website etc. time and time again by making wild claims. It is sometimes referred to as yellow journalism. PR companies secretly love it as they understand Succès de scandale. Generating controversy a technique also used in Sales & Marketing as well. This is not a very good link but demonstrates some of its advantages and disadvantages: Selling controversy.
