Even viewed in the most favourable light of the statements by both parties, the
very best that you can infer is that Oracle paid him to shut him up.

I can't believe these newspapers
cheerily quoting that FM character.
Do they really not know he is a paid
talking head? Or do they nut even
care?
Everybody should make the point to
write in the comments about his
conflict of interest (even for
future cases where it is not
apparent). As a journalist, all you
have us your credibility. Once you
sell it once, nobody can trust
anything he says from now on,
because he can sell it again.
