I wondered where they got the inspiration for the shape

Then I saw the rectangular table with rounded corners that they were sitting at.

Of course, the table design was purely functional. The Knight Ridder design was
trade dress so that you could recognise it as a Knight Ridder design wherever
you saw it.

Roger Fiddler/Fidler, who I believe has appeared as a fact witness on behalf of
Samsung, was a (the?) founder of Knight-Ridder
