Also, it is not clear from the film clip if the pad even was some kind of
electronic device, or only a plain old notepad you write on manually, possibly
with a glossy film instead of paper. (I recall various old sci-fi scenes where
the people of future inexplicably used transparent plastic sheets, instead of
paper for writing, probably just to look futuristic).
The "2001" is much
better cinematic prior art for pads, and the book version even more so. In the
book, Dr Heywood Floyd browses newspapers using a pad with a zooming user
interface, while waiting to get to the Moon.

You have squared with pointed corners and you rounded corners.
The lights in your house are either ON or OFF. Although their
are also DEGREES of ON... naturally with a dimmer switch. But
even dimmed as far as it will go it's still said to be ON! ;)
Seems I used to use this argument as a kid too. In pretending
