Why do Ecuador protect suspected sex-offenders?
Authored by: Anonymous on Thursday, August 16 2012 @ 02:23 PM EDT
Like Sweden, Finland needed Germany's (not the Nazis) support against the Soviet
Union (not the Russians) too. It is readily understood that this may seem
compromising in hindsight, but Communism was seen as the really big threat to
Scandinavia at the time.

Finland had just experienced as civil war (Reds against Whites) and few decades
before gained independence from Russia. To make it even more complex, Finland is
the former eastern half of Sweden, lost to Russia in 1809.

You forget. Finland was an active VICTIM of Soviet aggression.

Finland started the war as an "allied power" because the USSR was part
of the Axis block.

When Germany attacked the USSR, they changed sides. Because they stayed an enemy
of Finland, Finland had to change sides too.

So no way could Finland be described as "an active ally of the Nazis".
They were a victim of Soviet aggression and needed Germany's help to survive.
Don't forget, Russia had historic claims to Finland (they were a Tsarist
province until some time in the 1800s), and I'm not sure of the historical
claims between Russia and Sweden too (and I think Finland was Swedish for a
while).

Going back even further, the Russian nation was founded by Vikings (the Rus) in
Kiev (now Ukraine).

As usual, popular history bears little resemblance to reality...

Cheers,
Wol
