I wouldn't put it past any law firm to make that connection.
Do you think it was coincidence that David Marriott represented IBM? He has a
famous local name and attended BYU. Could there perhaps have been some
consideration of cultural and local prejudices that helped guide that decision.
Would a [black, Hispanic, Asian, Mormon, Jewish or female] judge be more
favorably disposed to a [black, Hispanic, Asian, Jewish or female] attorney,
perhaps not, but why take a chance and give up a potential advantage.
BTW there are a lot of other potential cultural/ethnic groups that could have
been added to the list about it is merely intended to illustrate the point. Keep
in mind that Asian and Hispanic groups are not monolithic and in some
circumstances somewhat antagonistic.
