IMHO, it won't kill windows.
Business will get long keys. Joe Public will get 1-2 year keys at most.
Deep in the very small print there will be clauses that give MS the right to do
as they please with your system 'In the interests of Safety and Security'. If
that means your pc is just scrap after 1-2 years then they will just shrug their
shoulders and rake in the cash.
I know that I'm probably being extreme here but as anyone who has face problems
with Verisign (and other Key signers) keys expiring wil know, you are frankly up
the creek without a paddle and there are some nasty hungry 'gators waiting to
pounce.
sure they'll get sued. They might even lose but this will take years before a
verdict is reached. in the meantime, they will continue to do as they please in
many parts of the world.
Please, will someone tell me that they couldn't do something like this?

Ubuntu & 'apt-get' are not the answer to Life, The Universe & Everything which
is of course, "42" or is it 1.618?
