I think a more apt name would be "Windows 8 my desktop"

Microsoft Dumps Metro from Windows 8

"Metro" is used by several hundred different inner-dity train lines
around the planet.

Not that that sort of thing has stopped them before, they like using generic
names for their products.

How about:

"Button Interface"

That follows MS standard paractice of calling things by generic names that are
easily confused with the term for what they are a type of, to let themselves
believe that they are the only product in the market.

How about combining the names of two of its "better" software
products, Excel and Access.

That would result in Excess.

There is a company here named Metro that provides and services those portable
outhouses you see on construction sites. They would not have approved of MS
tarnishing their reputation by naming a release of Windows after them.

Android / iOS Metro Europe ap
Authored by: Anonymous on Friday, August 03 2012 @ 04:03 PM EDT
If we have to come up with a name, I'll pick "Klunky," but I'm not good that that sort of thing.
Deep speculation is that somebody already owned the trade mark "Metro"
As someone already mentioned, the term "Metro" is often used for train or subway based mass transit systems. It's hard to believe that there would be a conflict there, though, because that would be a completely different market. The Verge is claiming that an internal Microsoft memo said that the change came about because of "discussions with an important European partner". There is a Europe metro app for Android and a Metro Europe app for iOS. Both seem to be subway / train guides. I doubt those would be the problem, though. The iOS product seems to be a scaled-down version of Metro Maximus, which is world-wide. Microsoft would have pretty much had to know about that already if they tried to check at all.
