That's why it's stupid being able to patent a phone the size
of a fingernail. Patenting some of the technology which is
used to create that miniaturisation, on the other hand, is

I'm not really sure "deep dish pizza" qualifies as a pizza. It's
definitely delicious, but so is a calzone, and that's not a pizza either, even
though it's essentially a pizza's filling with a pizza crust wrapped around it.
Do I think "deep dish pizza" is an innovation? Yes.
Do I think it should be patentable? No. Not with all the pies around, many of
which don't have a crust on top, and which come in all variety of depths.
But I really doubt that using the same name for it is appropriate, even though
it is descriptive. In other words, even though I think it's different enough to
deserve a different name, I don't think it's innovative enough to deserve a
patent.
