According to m$ spinmeisters...
Of course, that ignores that those 1 million are hotmail users who converted,
meaning less than 1/3 of 1 percent of the total 350 million users.
Another successful launch from the masters of ho-hum.

It was yet another bought in product as MS noticed a market they had failed to
'innovate' in and bought a company to catch up.
When MS bought the company the mail system was running on Unix servers: FreeBSD
and Solaris. MS tried to switch over the Windows servers but this failed to be
reliable and did not cope with the traffic so they switched back. A second
attempt did work.
