Perhaps You Could Clarify Something

I have looked through the linked blog as well as the Internet Strom Center's
Diary on this. While it is well and good to criticize the design of MS-CHAPv2
(and I enjoy beating up on Microsoft as much as the next guy) I can't help
wondering whether CHAP (the non-Microsoft version) fares any better.

My understanding is Moxie Marlinspike went after MS-CHAPv2 because it is still
widely deployed and he wishes to change that. But I've wondered to what degree
Microsoft has specific culpability by (once again) going off on their own rather
than sticking wiht an established standard.

Or maybe my question is way off base since I am really not familiar with this
area.
