Packaging
Authored by: RPN on Wednesday, August 01 2012 @ 05:05 PM EDT
In this country, UK, you almost never see the packaging until you've done the
deal. BUT, and it is a huge but, I have never been in a phone store that doesn't
have very clear make, model etc labeling of the phones on display. I have never
been on a website without very clear labeling in the same manner for the phones
on display. You either have to be supremely careless about your viewing or
illiterate and not listen to the sales person to not be very aware of the make
and model of phone you are buying. And they are probably going to try and tell
you X is a better deal than Y anyway to improve their commission.

With tablets it isn't necessarily quite the same but very largely tablets are
displayed without their packaging, well labeled and in fact often Apple products
are aside in their own 'area' as well. Even in the poorer stores it isn't easy
to confuse one product from another not least as those are often only selling a
very poor selection to start with and are displaying the package rather than the
bare product.

Richard.

I didn't know the retail packaging was also subject of dispute.
I thought the case was about the naked devices. After all that's
what is displayed in the shop, and (if you're lucky) handed to
the prospect to fondle and push (virtual) buttons. In the
purchases I have made, the box is the last thing to be seen
as the salesdroid scans the serial nr from the box, not the device.

Phones are usually displayed in stores without packaging and are often activated
and handed to the consumer.

When I recently got my new Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket, the sales person asked
if I wanted the box. I could easily have put all of the contents in my pocket.
The contents consisted of the Phone, a USB charger and a couple of 5" x
5" documents.
