The attendees were physicists, engineers, mathematicians, geologists, and one
with a chemical background (me).

Windows 8 is suffering from multiple maladies, and we look to be safer by the
day in calling it a nonstarter. It’s an interface looks to be unpopular from
the start. Unlike FOSS, however, Windows does not give the user the option to
switch to a different desktop. Microsoft is no longer the 600 pound gorilla
that drags users off along whatever harebrained path it picks, but it is a 400
pound gorilla that more and more users are looking to escape.
