Exactly, so "he" was appropriate.
It's also the word used when you don't care what gender they are. English
defaults to male pronouns. Every alternative I've seen is either too imprecise
or horriffic to actually say: Try pronouncing "s/he". If you don't
like that detail of the language, think about it this way: All the female ones
are the male ones with a prefix, which would imply that women are more than men
