Sigh. We're still coming out of a mini ice age.

Yup - I'm well aware of this - at the same latitude as us Canada gets feet of
snow a year compared to our snow maybe one year in two or three. And if the
Arctic ice disappears (predicted in the next few years) then there'll be nothing
to drive the Gulf Stream (actually I think it's the B... current down the
Canadian coast it actually drives, but the Gulf Stream is part of the same
system.

That's probably why we've had so much rain this year ... for those who don't
know, the South of England started the year with a hosepipe ban because we had
empty reservoirs, and were hoping for a wet 2012/13 winter to refill them. Two
months later, they cancelled the hose-pipe ban because we'd had so much rain
they refilled. Typically we were get a month's average rainful every two or
three days - for weeks on end! Fortunately, we haven't had *too* much flooding
(and, living on the top of a hill overlooking the Thames Estuary I'm safe). But
the floods have been a bit of a nightmare for many people.

Cheers,
Wol
