And everyone else is panicing why?

Are they worried that someone actually got that sort of deal, and they'll look
like chumps?

Are there any companies that have "patent deals" with MS who aren't
screaming about this?

Varying degrees of cluelessness...

which some sunlight would cure.

Microsoft is profiting from the ignorance of those who don't understand they're
being extorted, they're profiting from from the fear of those who don't have the
courage to stand up to the extortion, and they're profiting from the plain hard
work of those who don't have the wherewithal to fight the extortion.

Every one of those who are under the NDA are obligated, by its terms, to defend
Microsoft from having the terms made public. (How do I know? I haven't seen the
NDA, but we can see it's workings in these requests for filing under seal - it's
like looking at a shadow on the ground, and being able to tell that it's the
shadow of a skunk, not a pine tree.) I really doubt their hearts are set on the
hiding, but they have to make the effort anyway.
