I have used Mandrake/ Mandriva since 7.0, My youngest brother and a friend just
bought me the bits for my 50th b-day to build a multicore PVR machine at home.
It's even my first 64bit machine as I've had no need for one at home.
So I downloaded the latest Mandriva free DVD for 64bit! with a little excitement
:O)
I truly disliked it. So much so I downloaded Mageia 2 64Bit within 2 hours! It
now has a stable desktop running LXDE that I like, running at 1920x900 on my TV.
Just have to learn to configure MythTV!
I've also downloaded the 64Bit DVD and the LXDE live 64Bit disk of Fedora to try
on the machine. From the Live disk I could live with Fedora, I think?
All the 32bit machines in the house will stay on Mandriva 2010.2 with as many
updates as possible. If they ever get changed it will likely be to Mageia or
Fedora. However, all the distros I have tried since 1999 have always ended back
with Mandriva as the main desktop. DSL, Knoppix and similar are kept in reserve
on USB or CD's.
It is quite a sad feeling to leave the 'mandy' fold now, but they managed to
make the decision an easy one :O( I still have my Slackware disks from 1996 in
my CD storage but now I need another insert to add to the filing system.
