I saw a lot of quotes from Paul Allen's book
Idea Man , and stuff I've read elsewhere. Maybe Allen has a chip on his
shoulder? Then you might prefer these defenses from the
Seattle
Times , or
Forbes . Even the WSJ called it Train Reading . BTW NCSA and Mosaic were the
previous decade. Also
it is said MS did not co-operate with the writing of this article. So maybe if
things are really this bad they would have helped put some opposite spin on it.
I prefer Geek Wire's assessment,
Microsoft’s ‘Lost Decade’? Vanity Fair piece is epic,
accurate and not entirely fair .

So no, it isn't that accurate.
But it isn't that bad. I know people in management who are still convinced
that Microsoft is the greatest corporation ever. The article is aimed at them.
