That's not saying much. Pretty much anything else is faster than a contemporary
version of MS-Windows.

I put KDE on a Y2K era PC I was planning to give to a friend. OMG it was dire
...

Replace KDE with LXDE and it flies.

Not sure of the system spec but something like 1Gb of PC100 RAM, and a Duron
800.

Yes KDE *is* bloated and slow when run on older kit. As I say, this box is WinME
era. And LXDE flies fine.
