Different Strokes
Authored by: Anonymous on Sunday, July 29 2012 @ 03:04 PM EDT
(For people whose native language is not English, the title of this post is a
reference to the saying "different strokes for different folks". I am
sure an explanation can be found on the Internet.)

I have no problem with different desktops (or distributions or ...) being aimed
at different people. But for some time there seems to be a fairly pervasive
attitude that *everything* needs to be geared toward the inexperienced computer
user. In particular, that seems (IMHO) to be an underlying theme in
"usability studies". I realize that there are still a variety of
desktops available and I may still get around to exploring some more of them.
But that notwithstanding I find the notion of one size fits all deplorable and I
do see that attitude as being quite wide spread. Even in the free software
world!
