| Some of the more informed comments to the article seem to agree that there are
now compelling reasons for moving to Linux, and a lot of pressure on the GPU
manufacturers to make better drivers. Remember that gaming dominates high-end PC
sales, and you will see how this will affect the market. Paying for a Windoze
license to get a Linux machine will not be acceptable. Yet another sign that
M$ has passed the tipping point, and their slide into oblivion is becoming

Well, it's probably more like Microsoft slowly becoming a more credible
competitor for them.
One thing for sure is that, just like on Apple's iOS platforms (chat doesn't
count :p), Steam will have no place on Windows RT. On Windows 8, Microsoft will
push their "Live" stuff even harder than before (maybe even bundling
by default and all that for some "editions"). Next thing we hear might
be antitrust issues again :p.
Also, don't forget that for them to get on Android (which is becoming a platform
for more than just fancy phones), it would make sense to get on Linux in general
as well (which would open up even more opportunities as more platforms become
Linux based).
Hopefully this will be able to get enough momentum to finally get the Linux
graphics (major problem), audio (partially fixed), input (mostly fixed) and what
else that's needed in "perfect" shape. The recent news seem to suggest
that they are focusing on open source graphic drivers and libraries now.[ Reply to This | Parent | # ]

Buy Windows 8.
MS is working to lock it down to what becomes a console system with some apps
and they want to control the execution of anything that will run on it. Sounds
