Let's not get carried away. Mr. Jones is an
excellent reporter, in my opinion.

It's not altogether surprising that the BBC
would quote someone who is backed by Microsoft.
Ex-Microsoft folks are there at the BBC after
all. Microsoft has a lot of influence, because
they have a lot of money. So
they'll probably keep doing it.

Hence the article, so those who *want* to know
can do so. Cynical players will play. Remember
"Get the Facts"? For a while, only those who
really saw the game for what it was realized
it was ridiculous. But the more people pointed
it out, the more ridiculous it became, and eventually
Microsoft shut it down, because people were
laughing at it. It takes time to spread a message,
but consistent, factual effort without meanness
or outlandish claims or emotions can work.

At least historians will know, when they come across
the smears, that it was never true. If nothing
else, it helps undo some of the damage.

When you see a smear campaign against Google, do
you accept it? It might be true or it might not,
but when you see it over and over and over again,
shouldn't it make you stop and consider? That's
the real point. I noted in one article where Mueller
said that what was learned in discovery in this
litigation could be used in antitrust actions
in the future against Google. So that tells me
that there is a coordination to all this. Don't
be fooled.

It isn't just SCO. It isn't just Oracle or Microsoft.
It certainly isn't just little Florian Mueller.
It's bigger than all that. It's nothing less than a
serious push to shut down openness. And Google
represents that to the Dark Side, evidently.

I'm not sure what you find so offensive about the "coder" article.
It's certainly not an in-depth insight into everyday work at a software
development company. But it seems to be a pretty good introduction for
non-techincal readers.
