why put new snow tires on a car

Installing keylogging software improves the machine also.

So - the question then is "improving it for whom?" - and for what
purpose?

since you still haven't answered the question - how does installing software on
a computer to make it do what it's capable of doing make the software
patentable?

why put new snow tires on a car

You are not reasoning clearly. If I install
snow shoes on my car, I have to remove the
regular ones.

When I install software, I don't remove a thing.

The car has been altered, physically, by changing
the tires. The computer is not changed at all.

Plus, installing the software in no way changes
all the other things the computer can do. If I
install a game, for example, I can still use
my word processor. Nothing about the computer
changes when I switch from one application to another.
It's the same machine. If I uninstall the game,
it's still the same machine. It can still play
games, if I want to install them, or not, if I
don't want to. But the computer is exactly the
same, either way. It has that capability intrinsically.
Installing software takes advantage of what it can
already do.

That's not what happens with snow shoes on a car.
