|I can create a .doc file just fine. Here's one:|
fred.doc - size=0kb
If I cared to, I could type out the binary contents of one, and then have a
computer save it somewhere on a hdd or other persistant sorage device. There's
nothing stopping you from doing the same other than ignorance. Since you *can*
do that, how is the program enabling you to do anything new?
When you got your new computer, you could, instead of messing about with
software, have plugged in a device to the SATA port that let you directly
control the signals going along it. This would have let you perform any example
you can come up with. It may have been slow or awkward, but it would have been
possible. And all the information for how to do this is available if you want
to go and look for it, as we actually have full documentation for computers (or
we wouldn't be able to program them).
