Google is the inventor of MapReduce. They routinely handle datasets larger than
any existing database software can deal with.

Mostly just inability to admit mistakes, I think

Most of these lawsuits start out when some executive who knows a lot less about
the law than he thinks he does gets all excitied about being able to
"catch" a competitor doing something bad. The lawsuits get filed
before anyone with intelligence looks at the matter and discovers that there is
nothing there. By that time the company and their lawyers are committed and
can't back down because they would have to admit they made a mistake. This
country is, in large part, getting torn apart because ignorant CEOs and lawyers
can't bring themselves to admit their ignorance.
