Legal Compliance
Authored by: Anonymous on Wednesday, July 18 2012 @ 01:18 AM EDT
You don't see lawyers on the line at Ford checking the brake lights.
MS can claim that their legal compliance is covered in the EULA,
a great stinking tarpot that says effectively: It's Not Our Fault.
I know this agreement was between MS and the European Commission,
not the End User, but the cracks at Redmond will be papered over
so thoroughly neither we nor the EC will ever find who if anyone
was responsible.

Option 1: M$ didn't take compliance seriously enough.
Option 2: M$ deliberately did not comply.

M$ is hoping, really hard, for the EU to go with option 1.

Maybe there'll be an investigation. (Dunno how far the
court is willing/able to go.)

If option 1, I'm betting on an extra 15-20 months and a ~1
billion USD slap on the wrist.

If option 2, I'm betting on an extra 15-20 months and an 8
billion USD slap on the wrist.

I'm guessing that option 1 is actually more or less
accurate. I could be wrong.
